Today was a big day. Dave drove for the first time in a really, really long time! We are thrilled. Yesterday the hand controls were installed in the car and today he went for a drive. It felt similar to when the kids were first driving. Exciting and a little scary at the same time. It was fun. We went through Wendy’s drive-thru and got Mr. Smith a frosty, and we decided that the drive-thru lane is a true test in driving skills. This is a wonderful step in Dave’s healing, wholeness, and independence.
God continues to be faithful each day as we navigate the ups and downs of recovery from leukemia and we learn how to live with spinal cord damage. There are still days dominated by fatigue, pain, and frustration with some of the realities. But there are also days full of life and enjoyment. We are thankful for God’s constant presence in every day and we strive to serve Him in every way we can.
Today we celebrate driving!
